Canadians develop financial plans and estate plans and have their will in order but Majority of them lack a plan for the biggest investment of their lives- their homes. People don’t think they need a real estate plan until a crisis occurs, most people don’t want to talk about it, and then they break a hip or their spouse passes away- something happens and they’re forced to act.

With the right tools in place people can make this transition. Many older people need to go through a certain process so that they can discover why they’re thinking on moving and what is holding them back. There are two major obstacles that inhibit many older consumers from selling their homes and moving on- lack of information and the perceived magnitude of the process.

Consumers who have lived in the same home for 20, 30, or even 50 years sometimes don’t even know where to start. It can be especially traumatic for someone who is leaving a home that they have lived in for decades, particularly one that is full of precious memories. Added to this challenge is the fact that today’s families are typically more geographically dispersed. Help is not always available to assist with the moving process.
